Join the BIMCO regulatory team as a marine environment intern

 

BIMCO is the world’s largest international shipping association with over 2,000 members globally which include shipowners, operators, managers, brokers, and agents – from some of the largest shipping companies in the world to small local ship agents. We are organised around three pillars: Contracts, Regulatory, and Expert Knowledge. We work to promote and be part of developing global standards and regulations that support the protection of the marine environment with focus on the technical and operational reality of the global shipping industry. 

With our global reach, knowledge of the shipping industry and a keen understanding of the marine environment, we strive to do our part to reduce the industry’s environmental impact.

We provide practical knowledge-based solutions to both policy makers and shipowners based on our own research and the expertise and experience of our members. 

 

Tasks and responsibilities:

  •  Analysis and visualisation of surveys conducted on biofouling and ballast water management and safe manning of ships
  • Contributing to the data collection and visualisation of BIMCOs own environmental footprint 
  • Supporting the regulatory team in other day to day work with focus on analysing and scoping environmental regulatory developments 

 

Candidate profile 

  • You have environmental interest for example either studying or having recently graduated from a course in ship science, environmental science, ocean science or marine biology or a similar degree or masters
  • High proficiency in both spoken and written English (English is the working language at BIMCO) 
  • High proficiency in data analysis and data visualization using Excel and/or PowerBI 
  • Being able to work independently and run with small and large ad hoc project assignments. 
  • Permission to work in the UK

Location 

The BIMCO London office is based in Vauxhall. We offer a hybrid-working model and working from home on a full-time basis is possible based on the candidate’s circumstances and preference. 



Hours 

Flexible- although full time (35 hours per week) is preferred 
Start date is flexible but should be as near to 1 February 2025 as possible. 
The internship is for a 12-week period. 


Salary 

BIMCO internships are paid at London Living Wage- currently at £13.85 per hour.
